Ed Sheeran performed 'Fairytale of New York' with Picture This and Lisa Hannigan on last night's Late Late Show

EARLIER THIS WEEK, people were left with mixed feelings after Ed Sheeran’s performance of Fairytale of New York on BBC’s Live Lounge. Should anybody ever even attempt to touch this song?
On last night’s Late Late, he managed to redeem himself for his earlier performance.
Alongside Lisa Hannigan, Beoga and Picture This, Ed performed the classic Christmas tune once again. A brave man to attempt that on Irish national television. But it actually wasn’t bad in the end.
Before his performance he spoke to Ryan Tubridy about his love of a casual drink. Just like Shane MacGowan, so.
Ryan pointed out that it’s a miracle that Ed’s so stable, compared to other musicians his age who can easily find themselves indulging in excess.

Ed insisted that he actually is ‘quite mental’, and believes creative people almost always are. He explained that he likes a drink, but doesn’t class his drinking as problematic.
Ryan suggested that if Ed Sheeran had been off the rails, he wouldn’t have been able to make such a successful album. Ed then pointed out that Shane MacGowan managed to write Fairytale of New York.
